Products and collections

A form only shows up on a product page if you have assigned it. There are two ways to do that, and they work together: product by product, or by collection. Both live in the form’s Products tab.

Click Add products, pick the ones you want in Shopify’s picker and you are done. Each chosen product is linked to this form, and the Assigned products card lists exactly which ones.

  • Each product takes a single form. If you pick one that already belonged to another form, this form takes it, without asking. Before moving products around, check which form they are in.
  • Each product takes a few seconds, and they are processed one after another: the app has to write to Shopify for every one of them. Ten products take about a minute; a hundred, about ten minutes with the tab open. If you are about to assign many, do it by collection.

Click Add collection and choose one. From that moment on every product in that collection shows the form, including products that join the collection later, whether you add them by hand or an automated collection picks them up through its rules.

This works because the app never touches the products: it records the form on the collection, and the product page looks at which collections it belongs to when it loads. That is why:

  • It does not matter how many products the collection holds. Assigning a collection of 5 products or one of 5,000 costs the same and takes the same: a couple of seconds.
  • Removing the collection undoes the assignment for all its products at once, on the next load of each product page.
  • The Assigned products card does not list products that arrive through a collection: only the ones you assigned one by one. The tab’s counter tells you how many collections the form has.

A product can be assigned directly and also belong to one or more assigned collections. The rule is fixed:

  1. The product’s own assignment always wins. If a product sits in a collection assigned to form A but you assigned it by hand to form B, it shows B.
  2. Without a direct assignment, it shows the form of the first of its assigned collections. When a product sits in two collections assigned to different forms, that order is decided by Shopify, not by the app, so do not rely on it.

In practice: use collections for the bulk of the catalogue, and direct assignment for the exceptions — the frame that needs a different form, or the product you want out of the general rule.

  • The form has to be Active and synced to appear, however it is assigned. When you assign a collection, the app syncs the form first if it needs to.
  • Products without an assignment do not show the button, but your theme keeps its own buy buttons. How to handle that is your call: Control how each frame is bought.
  • If you delete a form, its assignments — products and collections — are cleaned up with it.
